Finally drove a C7

Working as a porter (used to be a lube tech, kept hurting myself) and photographer for a Chevy dealership has given me seat time in a lot of awesome cars. C6 Corvette convertible, C6 Z06, C6 Gran Sport, C6 ZR1 (!!!), Camaro SS’ with every transmission (6 speed with reverse right and down, 6 speed with reverse left and up WITH NO GODDAMN LOCKOUT), Chevy Sparks with manuals (hell of a lot of fun), ATS4s, and numerous trucks and other crap (holy hell modern trucks are swanky). But today I finally drove a C7. Automatic, white, and comfy as hell.

The C7 is an enormous jump from the C6. So much better screwed together, with tons of nice design details and features that I didn’t really have time to soak in but one of the most stunning parts is the all-glass roof with the curve in it.

Acceleration was enough to pin me back in my seat, obviously. Didn’t feel as vicious as the C6 ZR1 or as unwieldy as the drag-prepped Camaro SS. Interior was comfier than most Cadillac I’ve been in, save for the 1998 Deville which has the distinction of having one of the most badass horns ever. But the C7 had one failing.

Body roll. Honestly, the C7 handles a *lot* worse than I expected it to. Turn-in was kind of sloppy, and there was a decent amount of roll. Not to say it handles poorly; the damn thing has grip for eons and the traction control (hell no I’m not turning that off in a car I don’t own) does an excellent job of keeping all four corners in check, but it just doesn’t feel as tight as it should. It’s kind of abstract but I noticed the same thing when I saw a white C7 at an autocross. There is a lot of roll. Of course, Miatas roll a lot and we know how well those handle, but I still don’t know where I’m going with any of this so I’ll just kind of end this paragraph awkwardly by asking if anyone else who has driven a C7 noticed this, and did you think the C6 had tighter handling?

remember what trim package is was? (Maybe just base with the smaller wheels and base suspension?) Maybe crappy or under-inflated tires (?) The base c6 I’ve been did have a bit of roll, though the Grand Sport had virtually none - never been in anything else.
